Our Programs

We focus on being the premier provider of evidence-based psycho-educational programs to disadvantaged and at-risk children and young people.

The programs we offer have a strong psychological basis such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). Programs and therapies that draw upon CBT principles tend to be:

  • short in duration,
  • focused, and
  • have been demonstrated by decades of psychological research to be effective and show some of the greatest levels of change in participants.

These high quality programs are typically provided on a fee-for-service basis and are often out of reach for socially or economically disadvantaged families.

We solve this by delivering these programs and providing them on a free or low cost basis.

The Sakura Mission

We deliver high quality, evidence-based programs that provide disadvantaged young people key skills for successfully transitioning from childhood to adolescence and adulthood, so that they have the best chance of leading healthy productive lives.

Primary School Programs

Tailored for children in the 10 to 12 year age group, our primary school programs deliver a pathway for children to build their socal and emotional skills by enhancing key behavioural indicators.

Children that have been identified as being disadvantaged, have experienced a traumatic past traumatic past, or are potentially victims and/or are at risk offending because of family, social, and substance issues are guided through development of resilience, coping mechanisms, and appropriate responsive behaviour.

Building resilience in children has been linked to improved empathy towards others, better problem-solving, healthy relationships with peers and family members, greater confidence, optimism towards life and challenging situations, improved management of emotions and a sense of independence. We know that children with higher resilience are less likely to experience psychological and social difficulties; and are more likely to be better learners.

Sakura programs feature sessions which are aimed at improving a child’s resilience. Each session builds on the other, focusing on the key attributes that are necessary in building resilience and providing effective strategies to cope with adversity and personal challenges.
