About Us
Sakura Education Foundation Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation born out of the experiences of its inaugural directors who have extensive experience in developing and evaluating programs for at-risk young people and providing psychological services to young people and their families.
Through their experiences, they recognised an existing gap in current services and the need for high quality, evidence-based programs to help young people successfully navigate the transitions to adolescence and young adulthood.
Our Why
Transitions from childhood to adolescence and adolescence to adulthood are tumultuous times in a person’s life-course. Sadly, each year many children and young people struggle to navigate these transition periods in a healthy way. The end result can be detrimental to the young person and the broader community. Community and government resources are then invested, often in a fragmented and under-resourced way, to provide immediate support and address the risks.
Through their various experiences across the criminal justice system; working with, developing and evaluating programs for, at-risk children and young people; and understanding currently available services, the inaugural directors identified the need for evidence-based programs that target the key skills that children and young people require to succeed.
Their observation over decades of experience is that the children and young people who are often in most need of those programs are the ones who have financial or other barriers to their participation.
It is against this backdrop that Sakura Education Foundation Ltd has been formed, to help ensure that all children and young people have an opportunity to acquire key skills that they need to lead healthy productive lives.
